IMMIGRATION minister Damien Green has said skilled workers should not feel threatened by migration into the UK.
Talking to the Daily Post, the Tory MP said the coalition were determined only to let in those who had skills needed in Britain, and said there would be an end to a culture of claiming benefits.
He said: “You should be looking for a job if you can do a job.
“Those coming to this country need to show they have skills we are short of, and be prepared to work when they get here.”
Mr Green added he also wanted migrants to have basic proficiency in English so they could “participate in life in Britain.”
The minister also said he wanted to tackle racist extremism in politics by having an immigration policy people had faith in.
He said: “When people think immigration is out of control, they get worried – we want to bring it under control.”
