Liverpool Day massive success at Shanghai Expo

LIVERPOOL Day will long be remembered in China as the day when the World Expo in Shanghai smashed two records.

But those lucky enough to attend Liverpool’s Expo gala concert on Saturday evening will have their own fond memories of an eclectic, hugely entertaining and truly joyous occasion.

The concert was essentially the same one that previewed to mixed reviews in Liverpool a couple of weeks ago, but this was the night when it all came together.

It started as a majestic musical experience, Vasily Petrenko conducting the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra in a soaring, beautifully arranged medley of Lennon and McCartney classics.

By the end, it was a party, with hundreds of audience members literally dancing in the aisles to the show-stopping OMD, and the volunteers who have worked so hard to make the Liverpool Pavilion one of the hits of the Shanghai Expo crowding on to the stage with the RLPO to dance to a stirring rendition of Twist and Shout.
