A MULTI-MILLION pound project that could bring 2,000 jobs to Liverpool was today being promoted at the Shanghai World Expo.
The Liverpool BioCampus, set to be built next to the planned new Royal Liverpool Hospital, could bring £100m annually to the city’s economy.
Health chiefs were today set to meet representatives from the pharmaceutical and biotech industries at the Expo, to promote the scheme and attract investment. Jobs will vary from construction work to scientific research.
Health bosses said it could lead to the discovery and development of breakthrough drugs to treat some of the world’s most devastating diseases.
Tony Bell, chief executive of the Royal, said: “The BioCampus has the potential to create jobs and bring significant financial investment into Merseyside’s economy and is the key to local regeneration.
“The BioCampus will be at the forefront of research, developing new treatments, which have the power to save and improve the lives of people here in Liverpool, nationally and globally.
