Tipped lorry causes huge tailbacks on M53 in Wirral

A LORRY carrying scrap metal tipped its load across the motorway on the Wirral yesterday.

The incident happened on the M53 Liverpool-bound side, near Eastham, and caused massive tailbacks for commuters travelling on the A41.

Police and ambulance were called to the scene near the roundabout at J5 around 12pm.

The driver of the tipper truck had minor injuries but no one else was hurt. Police closed the junction and diverted traffic away from the scene.

The roads only started to clear around 6.30pm last night.

A police spokesperson said: “The incident occurred on the Liverpool-bound lanes, but it caused huge disruption to people travelling not just to Liverpool, but the Wirral, Chester, North Wales and beyond.”
