Union members protest against government cuts outside Liverpool Town Hall and Royal Hospital

OVER 100 Liverpool union members demonstrated outside the Town Hall yesterday.

Merseyside Right to Work, NUT, PCS, UNISON and Liverpool Socialist Students protested against the coalition government’s cuts including jobs in the public sector, the uncapping of tuition fees and welfare budget cuts.

Union members also gathered outside the Royal Hospital, saying they believe the cuts will damage the NHS and lead to job losses and deterioration of patient care.

Su Edwards, Unison branch secretary, said: “The cuts to the NHS, to public services and cuts in welfare benefits are unfair & unnecessary.

“The Coalition should be taxing the banks and the super- rich and scrap Trident.”
