Review: Honours even for Everton and Liverpool in the Ballad of Dixie and Kenny

“IT’S not about being a Red or a Blue,” said writer Dave Kirby, as he introduced his latest football-inspired creation.

“It’s about being Scouse.”

An apt line for this 75-minute film, which wasted little time launching into every taunt, skit or comedy brag ever heard on the Gwladys Street or Kop.

This is the story of Blue-obsessed Dixie (Paul Duckworth) and Red-obsessed Kenny (Andrew Schofield) who have a major problem – they are next- door neighbours.

Inside their Liverpool and Everton-shrine homes, the gags come thick and fast, and while obvious, they can’t fail to raise a smile as the Gerrard and Carragher-faced hard boiled eggs on the breakfast table are battered into submission by a maniacal Dixie and Kenny and wife Annie perform their tea-drinking ritual from gleaming European Cups.
