A CONTROVERSIAL decision to halt the development of a new hotel in West Wirral is being challenged by the borough’s opposition Labour group.
Wirral Council’s ruling cabinet scrapped plans for The Sail hotel and a new sailing school adjacent to the marine lake in West Kirby. They decided issues regarding traffic and loss of car parking spaces in the busy seaside town out-weighed the benefits a hotel and new sailing school might bring and instead said they would seek another way to have a new sailing school developed.
But Labour have used the council’s call-in procedure to look again at the decision which they described as “arbitrary”.
Labour leader Steve Foulkes said: “The abrupt cancellation of the Sail Project sends out an extremely bad message to potential investors in Wirral.”
