MERSEYSIDE’S ambulance service saw emergency calls rocket during the Hallowe’en weekend.
Last week, North West Ambulance Service (NWAS) had 18,000 emergency calls and of these 6,975 were considered serious and life-threatening. Compared with the previous week, the trust saw an increase of 10% for the most serious category A calls and a 5% increase overall in calls. But Merseyside Police saw a drop in incidents, with 316 fewer emergency calls received during the weekend compared to last year – a 22% reduction.
Director of Emergency Services at NWAS, Derek Cartwright, said: “It is thought the main factors in these increases are related to the drinking, parties and other social activities associated with Hallowe’en and Bonfire Night.”
