Napoli fans clash in Liverpool
FOOTBALL fans clashed on the city’s streets last night after Liverpool FC’s match against Napoli.
Around 40 Italian supporters, some armed with sticks and with leather belts wrapped around their knuckles attacked a group of hooded Liverpool fans, along Walton Lane.
Earlier, Liverpool had come from behind to win the Europa League fixture at Anfield 3-1.
Police reported a number of skirmishes and by midnight had made seven arrests – six Liverpool fans and a single Napoli supporter.
The major flashpoint came on Walton Lane, outside Everton’s Goodison Park.
Police vans, officers on horseback and on foot swooped to contain the chaos, eventually rounding up the Italians to stop them roaming the streets around Stanley Park
