John Dodd celebrates London to Liverpool walk with Ken Dodd

AN 82-YEAR-OLD who walked from London to Liverpool to raise funds for a Merseyside hospice met Ken Dodd yesterday to celebrate his achievement.

The Squire of Knotty Ash was marking his 83rd birthday and congratulated his namesake John Dodd at St John the Evangelist church.

In turn the comedian was presented with a birthday cake.

John has so far raised £500 for Jospice in Crosby and a further £2,500 for four other causes.

John Dodd is himself an entertainer, having appeared in films and on the stage.

Jospice fundraising manager Pat Murphy said: “John is a big fan of Ken’s and has met him several times.

“He managed to get a lot of sponsorship through his showbiz contacts and we thank him for his donation.

“It is a great achievement.”

Jospice is one of the oldest hospices in the country, providing care and support to terminally ill people and their families from within the Liverpool and Sefton areas. it was founded by Father Francis O'Leary, a missionary priest.
