Daresbury science campus to grow by 1m sq ft and support 6,000 new jobs

DARESBURY science campus will grow by 1m sq ft in a new 20-year public-private venture, the Government will confirm today.

The project is expected to create 6,000 knowledge-based jobs.

It is being put together by the Government’s Science and Technology Facilities Council (STFC), Halton Borough Council, the Northwest Development Agency and Merseyside-based developer Langtree.

Daresbury is already home to the Government’s Daresbury Laboratory, an innovation centre that incubates new hi-tech firms, and the Cockcroft Institute, which specialises in particle acceleration.

Announcing its support for the plans, the Department for Business Innovation and Skills said they will “firmly establish” the campus as “one of the world’s principal locations for scientific research”.
