A DEAL to prevent a strike on Merseyrail was hammered out last night.
Staff from the Rail Maritime and Transport Union met with Merseyrail leaders in Liverpool. Workers at the company – not including drivers or guards – had been balloted for strike action in a row over pay.
But yesterday’s talks ended with a new two-year deal which it is expected union leaders will recommend to their members. The previous final rejected offer was for a 3.7% rise, but the Daily Post believes the new deal will link pay rises to inflation, currently about 5%.
Merseyrail declined to comment on details but spokesman Rudi Boersma said: “We were always confident we would be able to come to a sensible agreement, and we’re very pleased we’ve managed to do so.”
