Arrowe Park and Clatterbridge Hospitals braced for £42m cuts

BOSSES at a Merseyside hospital trust are preparing to make nearly £42m of cuts.

Nursing staff at the hospital last night said the cuts will inevitably hit patient care.

Unions at Wirral University Teaching Hospital NHS trust, which includes both Arrowe Park Hospital and Clatterbridge Hospital, are in discussions with members, which could lead to industrial action.

It is feared the Clatterbridge site is being lined up to take the brunt of the first wave of cuts.

The Daily Post understands a consultation on the future of the site, due to start early next year, will include plans to use the hospital for outpatients only.

Another two options for the site are to treat only day cases, in which a patient is operated on and discharged the same day, or to leave it as is.
