Liverpool writer Jimmy McGovern and Bob Hoskins triumph for the Street at International Emmy Awrds

JIMMY McGOVERN triumphed at the international Emmys when his series, The Street, won the Best Drama award.

The Kensington-born former Brookside writer, who created Cracker and wrote Hillsborough, shared the honours with his leading man Bob Hoskins.

The Mona Lisa star won the Best Actor award for his portrayal of a recovering alcoholic pub owner whose morals lead him to stand up to the local gangster.

The Street, a collection of individual stories set on a street in the North West, won critical and popular acclaim for its three series broadcast since 2006. It starred the cream of British acting talent including Timothy Spall, Jim Broadbent, Jane Horrocks, and David Thewlis.

The BBC was another winner at the awards with Helena Bonham Carter winning Best Actress for her role as children’s author Enid Blyton, in Enid.
