Sir David Henshaw new Chairman at Alder Hey Childrens Hospital

THE new chair of Alder Hey last night said he was 100% behind the hospital’s planned £288m rebuild.

In an exclusive interview with the Daily Post, Sir David Henshaw said the blueprint had the power to further the city’s regeneration.

The appointment of the former chief executive of Liverpool City Council was ratified by the hospital’s board of governors on Monday night.

Sir David, who is currently chair of strategic health authority (SHA) NHS North West, added he had never met former project director Richard Glenn, who dramatically resigned last week in protest at his appointment.

He said: “I am passionate about this project and am behind it 100%, I have been a vocal supporter of the project and the new Royal in my current role.

“This is for not just the hospital but for the city, everyone knows this building and loves it, but it is not the right design – we need to get it right.

“We have got to make sure it is affordable and invest properly in it.
