Lord Mayor of London, Alderman Michael Bear 300
THE Lord Mayor of London visited Liverpool yesterday, in his capacity as Britain’s principal ambassador for the financial services industry.
Alderman Michael Bear met representatives of the International Cotton Association, which is based in Liverpool, as well as executives from the region’s maritime industry, and investment managers from Rensburg Sheppards and Rathbone Brothers.
Alderman Bear said: “Liverpool plays a very important part in the UK financial services sector.
“I want to see how I can better include the wealth management side of Liverpool when I make my overseas visits, as well as when I speak to government on regulatory reform.
“I have been very struck by the confidence of the city and how it has changed since I was last here 10 years ago.”
Alderman Bear praised Liverpool’s pavilion at the World Expo in Shanghai, saying: “You are spreading your relationships very effectively.”
