One Park West residents divided over Alpine winter fair reaction

RESIDENTS of Liverpool’s One Park West luxury flat complex are divided following the news some had called for the council to tear down the fairground outside their homes, over concerns it was lowering the tone of their “glamorous” city centre address.

The council is due to decide today whether to grant permission for the “Alpine Style Event” attraction to remain in its Chavasse Park location, after it was put up before being given the green light by city planners.

But the application has provoked mixed reactions from residents of the Liverpool One apartment block.

Since the Daily Post broke the news last week that some apartment owners wanted rid of the attraction – which includes a 60-metre high swing ride, toboggan run, ice rink and food and drink stalls – others have leapt to its defence, claiming it enhances the appeal of their up-market city centre addresses.

The planning application is for permission to use the park for the Alpine Style event for three months. During the summer, a three-month approval was granted for a similar seasonal event which included turning much of the park into a beach.

Those who complained to planners said they believed the current attraction was “vulgar” and the rides “tatty”.
