Sir Paul McCartney
BEATLES legend Sir Paul McCartney announced an intimate homecoming gig in the city to celebrate the success of his world tour.
Revealing plans to give fans an early Christmas present, Sir Paul vowed to “rock out” on his return to the city with a one-night only O2 Academy show.
“I always love playing to a home audience, and for me it’s the perfect way to end the year,” he said.
“We’ve had great fun with the stadium shows this year and we’re looking forward to the more intimate vibe of these ones.
“Christmas is the perfect excuse for everyone to let their hair down and rock out.
“We are looking forward to celebrating with the good people of London and Liverpool.”
It will be the musician’s first Merseyside appearance since he collected his Ultimate Legend Award from U2 frontman Bono at the MTV awards at the Echo Arena, in 2009.
At the showbiz ceremony, he shared the stage with Beyoncé, Pink, Take That and Kanye West as the global spotlight turned on the city.
The previous summer, he had wowed a 36,000-strong sell-out crowd at Anfield stadium to mark Liverpool’s Capital of Culture year.
At the 2008 gig, he told fans: “Thank you for coming to the City of Culture, epicentre of the universe.”
This time round, the former Beatles star will play to hundreds, rather than thousands, in what promises to be the most sought- after ticket of the year.
