Merseyside police cuts £12million deeper than expected

CUTS to Merseyside police will have to go deeper than previously thought, after the coalition Government dealt the force a “huge blow”.

The police authority, who hold the force purse strings, were expecting to see a £53m reduction in budget over the next four years after the Government’s Comprehensive Spending Review, which was announced in October.

But policing minister Nick Herbert on Monday revealed the cuts would be even more.

Merseyside police will now have to deal with an extra £12m off the budget than they had planned for.
