SEVERE weather caused traffic mayhem and resulted in 48 road accidents across Merseyside yesterday.
Of those reported, 11 crashes resulted in slight injuries.
A woman driver was injured when her grey Ford Fiesta crashed at Longborough Lodge, on the East Lancs Road, Norris Green, at 7.15am.
North West Ambulance and Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service crews were also called to help a woman whose car was trapped on the central reservation on Speke Boulevard, following a crash at 9.45am.
The driver of a car was also taken to hospital after crashing into a lamp-post in Kirkby at 11.20am.
Finally, a woman was injured in a two-vehicle collision caused by ice on the road in Harris Drive, Bootle, at around 1.55pm.
Superintendent Carl Krueger, of Merseyside Police, urged motorists not to take “non-essential” journeys.
The Northern Line and Wirral Line services were also subject to delays and cancellation yesterday.
