BUSINESSES were last night assessing the financial damage the bad weather wreaked over the weekend.
December 17 to 19 should have been one of the busiest weekends of the year for city centre traders.
But many restaurants had scores of last-minute cancellations due to the snow.
Alma de Cuba, in Seel Street, had 100 customers pull out on Saturday, while The Monro, in Duke Street, had 58 cancellations, which staff said was “unprecedented”.
Manageress Jenna Strickland said: “It took away our whole back restaurant. We were fully booked before that.”
Tai Pan, in Great Howard Street, and La Tasca, in Queen Square, also had cancellations.
Kent Ang, from Tai Pan, said: “Saturday was the worst, with about 70 people cancelling their bookings. Early last week, we were full.”
