Detectives appeal for information about murder of man in Hale Village

DETECTIVES think a father-of-three may have unwittingly driven to his death moments before being shot dead.

A car connected to victim Wayne Bassnett was found 50 yards from where he was killed on Wednesday.

The blue Volvo S60 parked in Pepper Street, Hale Village, is being examined by police in the hunt for vital clues.

The vehicle gives credence to the theory Mr Bassnett drove into Hale Village, around a 10-minute journey from his Hough Green home, on the night of his death.

It remains possible the 30-year-old was kidnapped and transported in that car to the hamlet, but with no reports of any abduction, that appears unlikely.

Police are also interested in a second car, a blue BMW 3 Series, which was stolen and bore false number plates.
