TRADING Standards have donated more than 700 scarves to homeless charities.
The counterfeit garments were just a small part of a larger haul discovered in a warehouse in Price Street, Birkenhead, last year.
As a result of a subsequent investigation, three men were prosecuted in Liverpool Crown Court for supplying counterfeit goods.
Counterfeit goods are usually destroyed or securely disposed of following a court order.
But in this case trading standards officers decided it would be wrong not to donate the scarves to people in need at Christmas and got permission.
A number of charities who work with homeless people across Wirral have received the scarves, which will be given to those most in need.
Cllr Gill Gardiner, cabinet member for the environment, said: “It is nice to see some good came out of crime.
“As well as being brought to justice, the defendants have unknowingly helped people in need, rather than ripping them off.”
