A CENTURIES-OLD hunt was cancelled yesterday because the ground was frozen solid.
Organisers of the Cheshire Hunt ruled it was unsafe for the hounds, horses and riders.
But around 20 riders in distinctive red tunics and 25 dogs gathered in Tarporley and paraded down the High Street.
It was the second year in a row the Boxing Day meet was cancelled – though it was one of hundreds cancelled nationwide.
The traditional post-Christmas hunt was scheduled for yesterday because Boxing Day fell on a Sunday.
Cheshire Hunt member Jon Levenson, 49, said: “We always have the Boxing Day meet, albeit on a Monday, because people like to come out and have some fresh air.
“But the ground was too frozen. It wasn’t safe to hunt or to take the horses and the hounds out over the frozen ground.”
