Tributes to English teacher Marie Ibison who died from a suspected brain haemorrhage on Christmas Eve

A MERSEYSIDE teacher died on Christmas Eve from a suspected brain haemorrhage.

Marie Ibison, who taught English and special needs at boys’ school Birkdale High, was described as the “life and soul” of the school.

Chairman of Governors David Jones said: “The news of Marie’s sudden and untimely death on Christmas Eve came as a great shock to us.

“She was an inspirational teacher, a key member of staff, loved and respected by pupils, parents and colleagues. Marie will be much missed by all those who knew her and our thoughts are with her husband and family at this very sad time.”

The mother-of-three was said to be fit and healthy and was rarely ill.

And the 52-year-old was described by one former colleague as the “life and soul of the school” who was loved by everybody.

“She conveyed the ethos of the school – caring for others and respecting others”, they added.

Mrs Ibison was involved in all aspects of school life including sports, drama and music. One former teacher who worked with her for over a decade said: “She was an amazing and wonderful teacher and a wonderful lady. She was highly regarded by the boys.

“Everyone is so shocked and overwhelmed by it all.”
