Liverpool’s cathedrals join forces to mark King James bible anniversary

ENTHUSIASTIC Bible readers from Liverpool’s two cathedrals joined forces to contribute to a national online project to commemorate 400 years of the King James Bible.

A total of 12 readers contributed video recordings of their favourite passages as part of an attempt to have the whole Bible recorded on YouTube in time for the 400th anniversary of the King James or Authorised Version of the Bible this year.

Readers including broadcaster Roger Phillips and senior churchmen were filmed at both Cathedrals in a demonstration of Anglican and Roman Catholic unity.

The anniversary will see a number of events and activities to promote and celebrate the King James Version, including the national YouTube project.

One of the local organisers, Rosemary Hawley from Liverpool Cathedral, said: “The translation of the Bible into English was savagely contentious in the 17th century, and people were burned at the stake for trying to do it, so being able to celebrate 400Šyears of the Bible in English jointly with Roman Catholic friends was wonderful.”
