Liverpool FC and primary care trust link up to improve city’s health

LIVERPOOL Football Club has linked up with health bosses in the city as part of a pioneering new scheme.

The club has unveiled a partnership with Liverpool Primary Care Trust (PCT) to tackle issues such as obesity, heart disease and mental health.

The project was launched at Liverpool’s Melwood training ground with new club manager Kenny Dalglish and Jamie Carragher.

Its aim is to develop a close relationship between health and sporting organisations to fund and deliver initiatives in the area.

Health bosses hope the link with Liverpool FC will persuade people, particularly men who might otherwise shun going to the doctors, to have regular health checks.

Gideon Ben-Tovim, chairman of Liverpool PCT, said: “The agreement brings with it exciting potential to work jointly on local priorities and to develop a range of new initiatives aimed at improving the health of people in Liverpool. In a city like ours, where football is close to everyone’s heart, we couldn’t ask for a better partner.”
