A SOUVENIR of the old Liverpool Central underground station is expected to sell for more than £1,000 when it comes up for auction tomorrow
The four-foot long sign dating from the days of British Railways was salvaged when the old Central was rebuilt in the mid-1970s, and is now up for sale with a specialist firm of auctioneers in Stafford.
Neil Booth of auctioneers Railwayana.com said: “It’s a standard British Railways totem, probably dating from shortly after 1948. But it’s four feet long, which makes it particularly unusual – the usual British Railways totem from that time would be only three feet long.” Neil is cautious but confident that the bidding will eventually stretch into four figures.
The same sale will also see a 1920s-vintage copper tea urn from Lime Street Station going up for sale, already attracting a lot of close interest despite its reserve price of £300.
