LIVERPOOL comic John Bishop picked up a British Comedy Award at a glittering ceremony on Saturday.
He was named Best Male Comedy Breakthrough Artist.
It followed a year in which he smashed into the big time with his own prime time show and sell-out tour.
The big winner at the awards was BBC comic actress Miranda Hart, who took three gongs.
John was absent from the awards, but he Tweeted before they began: “I can’t make it tonight but good luck to all nominees – LFC won today so I have to stay in to watch Match of the Day.”
