MERSEYSIDE employment lawyers last night backed Sky’s decision to sack long-standing pundit Andy Gray.
The former Everton striker was at the centre of a sexism row after he made off-camera remarks about a female referee’s assistant at the weekend.
He and fellow commentator Richard Keys were recorded saying Sian Massey probably did not know the offside rule as they prepared to watch Liverpool FC’s match against Wolverhampton.
Gray was given a final warning by bosses at BSkyB. But the £1.7m pundit got the boot after footage emerged of him apparently making a suggestive comment to co-presenter Charlotte Jackson.
Gray was yesterday reported to have appointed lawyers to see if he has a case against BSkyB.
In a statement, he said: “I am very sorry that certain comments made by me have caused offence. Such comments were made off-air to work colleagues, and were, of course, never intended to be broadcast.
“Football is my life and I am devastated by losing the job that I love.”
