THE number of cases of flu has dropped in Liverpool.
Latest figures from the Health Protection Agency show 26.8 cases per 100,000 people were reported during the third week of 2011. This compares to 122 cases at the disease’s peak in December.
The figures also revealed that swine flu and another strain – influenza B – were being reported in equal measure to GPs in the North West. Swine flu had previously been more prominent.
Figures have also dropped in other areas of Merseyside. Knowsley saw 13.3 cases per 100,000 people, in Wirral the figure stood at 26.2 and in Sefton 31.4. Halton and St Helens had 13.3 cases per 100,000, and in Warrington the figure stood at 45.7, which is still higher than other areas of the UK.
