Two Merseyside hospitals closed to visitors after norovirus outbreak

TWO Merseyside hospitals banned visitors after an outbreak of norovirus.

Managers at Arrowe Park and Clatterbridge hospitals took the decision on Friday after the winter vomiting bug took hold. Health chiefs said the ban will remain in force until at least this evening.

Tina Long, director of nursing and midwifery at Wirral University Teaching Hospitals Trust, which runs the sites, said: “Norovirus is highly infectious and so it is important that we protect patients by doing everything possible to prevent the spread of infection.”

Bosses said visiting to general wards will be allowed in exceptional circumstances, at the discretion of the ward manager, to patients who are critically ill, children and maternity patients.
