Firefighters’ warning after man rescued from mud on Wirral beach

FIREFIGHTERS have warned beach walkers to be on their guard after they had to rescue a walker who got stuck in the mud.

The man, who was in his 40s, was walking along the shore in Egremont, Wirral, when he strayed off firm sand and became trapped.

He was reported to be “exhausted” after a 45-minute struggle from around 2.30pm on Sunday.

Andrew Fell, of the Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service Marine Rescue Team, said yesterday: “Walkers on the shores of the Mersey should always be aware of the hazards of the local area, which include deep mud and also very fast tidal currents.

“Environmental conditions can change very rapidly.”
