Government spends nearly £180,000 chartering flights to Cairo to rescue stranded Britons

THE Government spent nearly £180,000 chartering two flights to rescue stranded Britons in Cairo, but only eight passengers have so far paid for their seats.

The flights on February 3 and 5 carried 196 British nationals, and 26 of their dependants who are not UK citizens.

Adult tickets for the Cairo to London Gatwick flight cost £300 each.
