Beatles John Lennon and Paul McCartney’s childhood homes to be staffed by husband-and-wife team
A HUSBAND and wife team will show visitors around Paul McCartney’s and John Lennon’s childhood homes when they reopen to the public next weekend.
Sylvia Hall will take over as custodian of 20 Forthlin Road, where Paul McCartney grew up, following the departure of the property’s only previous custodian, in November, 2010.
Mrs Hall’s husband, Colin, is the custodian at John Lennon’s childhood home, Mendips.
The National Trust, which owns both the properties, last night said Mrs Hall had been appointed in a temporary capacity and that a search would be launched for a new permanent custodian later this season.
The last resident tour guide, John Halliday, had lived and worked at 20 Forthlin Road since the property opened to the public in 1998.
He left his position a few days before the end of the 2010 season and Mrs Hall acted as temporary custodian then.
She has also worked at Mendips, where she lives with her husband. Mrs Hall said: “I’m really excited about welcoming visitors to 20 Forthlin Road.
“It’s an iconic house with a wonderful story to tell – and, of course, we have Mike McCartney’s fantastic collection of family photographs on display, as well as other Beatles’ memorabilia.”
Mr Hall has spent the closed season researching the guitars that Lennon would have played and owned while at Mendips, and the music he would have listened to as a teenager.
