Duke of Westminster and city regeneration leaders among Liverpool John Moores University fellowship recipients

CITY regeneration leaders, an aristocrat, and an Only Fools and Horses actor are among those to be honoured by Liverpool John Moores University.

The fellowships will be handed out in July, in recognition of what the university terms “outstanding achievement”.

And we can reveal recipients include The Duke of Westminster, who will be honoured for his “outstanding contribution to Liverpool and the reserve forces”.

The Duke’s company, Grosvenor, was the driving force behind the building of Liverpool One.

The Duke’s lifelong association with the Territorial Army began in 1970 and he has since risen to the rank of Major General, the first Reservist officer to be promoted to this rank since before World War II.

The Duke also supports military charities, such as the Tank Museum, the Royal British Legion, the Not Forgotten Association and the Commonwealth War Graves Commission.

He is First Chancellor of the University of Chester.

Others to be saluted include Bob Prattey, chief executive of city success story the Liverpool Echo Arena and BT Convention Centre.

The Arena, which opened in 2008, has already smashed the 1.5m visitor mark and, with the convention centre, its economic contribution to the city is estimated at £400m.

And, confirming he is to be honoured, the university said: “Bob has helped to boost Liverpool’s image as a city in which to live, work and invest.”
