Open Day at historic Albert Dock swing bridge
VISITORS were given a “behind the scenes tour” of repairs to the Hartley Swing Bridge, in Albert Dock.
The open day gave members of the public the chance to see the work site and meet the project manager and heritage advisor.
The Hartley Swing Bridge was built in the 1800s and it is the last survivor of its kind. The bridge was named after Jesse Hartley, who designed 16 of the Liverpool Docks built in the 19th century, including the Albert Dock.
Speaking before the open day, on February 24, Vince Moran, British Waterways’ operation director, said: “I hope opening up some of our lock-gate replacements and other repairs will give people in Liverpool a chance to see the work we do to ensure the waterways are preserved.”
