Liverpool’s budget cuts go through with three-way Lib-Dem split

Budget cuts protest

LIVERPOOL council last night agreed a budget plan to save £91m this year, despite an eleventh-hour attempt by the Lib-Dems to block the budget.

The decision means:

* libraries, childrens’ centres, nurseries and leisure centres will be under threat of closure;

* council tax will be frozen;

* moderate care for elderly and disabled people will come to an end;

* free leisure passes for youngsters will be scrapped;

* voluntary and charitable services will see their budgets cut by 48.

The Labour administration insisted it would still do all it could to find ways of saving services.
