YOUTH clubs in Sefton are set for an 11th-hour reprieve when service users present a 20,000-signature petition at Bootle Town Hall tonight.
Seven youth centres were last month approved for closure under the council’s £68m cost-cutting plans.
But the decision to shut facilities in Southport, Crosby, Formby, Maghull and Aintree is to be deferred after a U-turn by Conservatives.
They will tonight join with Labour in calling a further review of youth centre provision in the borough.
Group leader Paula Parry said: “We need more time to look at the situation in detail.
“Our group is very concerned not to disenfranchise any children with disabilities, but it is the service that is offered which is invaluable, not the buildings.”
