UNIONS yesterday said staff were being kept in the dark about a hospital ward closure.
Wirral University Teaching Hospital NHS Trust closed a surgical ward (M2) last Friday and beds on an orthopaedics ward (M1) at Clatterbridge Hospital.
But Royal College of Nursing officer for Merseyside, Colm Byrne, said: “Staff report that some have not received any official notification of redeployment and don’t know where they will be working from next Monday. Even more confusingly, a staff rota for M1 and M2 has been posted for next week.”
He also claimed that patients have been scheduled for theatre at Clatterbridge next week with no plans for beds for overnight stays elsewhere.
A hospital spokeswoman said discussions had begun last November, and that, of 16 staff affected by closure, 14 had taken alternative positions.
