A SUPERMARKET security guard was attacked with a machete as armed robbers tried to snatch cash.
Shocked shoppers witnessed the drama unfold at Sainsbury’s, in James Road, in Woolton, yesterday.
The security guard who suffered head and hand injuries was taken to Royal Liverpool hospital for treatment.
Witnesses described how the masked raiders had used a blue Vauxhall Vectra to block the security van delivering cash to the ATM machine.
But the driver pushed the robbers’ car to the other side of the car park and the gang then abandoned the car, leapt out, and scrambled over a high wall at the back of the car park to escape empty- handed.
