AN ELDERLY woman was killed in a three vehicle motorway crash.
It happened on the M53 near Bebington, Wirral, at around 11am on Saturday and involved a white Ford transit van, a silver Hyundai i20 and a silver Ford Focus.
A 90-year-old woman who was a front seat passenger in the i20 was taken to Arrowe Park hospital but later died.
The collision was on the Liverpool-bound carriageway between junctions four and five. A stretch of the motorway was closed for a while afterwards.
The driver of the Focus, the driver of the i20 and another passenger were taken to Arrowe Park after the crash. Their injuries were believed to be minor.
Fire crews, police and paramedics were all dispatched to the scene.
A Fire and Rescue spokesman said the elderly woman had been “confined” in the car after suffering fractures to her lower limbs but was not trapped.
