Man charged with murder of Liverpool Harrier

A MAN has been charged with the murder of a 23-year-old father-of-one who was killed in a hit-and-run.

Darren Bates suffered multiple injuries in the incident in Toxteth, in the early hours of March 17 as the car involved sped off from the scene.

Merseyside Police said Clifford Tucker, 25, of Springwood Avenue, Garston, is charged with his murder and will appear before Liverpool magistrates today.

A police spokesman added: “A 25-year-old man and a 41-year-old woman also arrested on Friday in connection with the murder have been released on police bail.”

The family of the former Liverpool Harriers runner and junior triple jump champion said his death had “left a massive hole”.
