Man held after stand-off at house in Blackpool

A MAN has been arrested on suspicion of false imprisonment, following a 16-hour stand-off with armed police.

The 25-year-old suspect locked himself in at an address in Blackpool, Lancashire, with his partner and her young child when officers came to arrest him on behalf of Strathclyde Police.

He was wanted for offences of attempted murder and wounding with intent, Lancashire Constabulary said.

An armed response unit was sent to the property, in Queen Victoria Road, shortly after the incident began at about 5pm yesterday, as it was thought the man may have a weapon.

The immediate area was sealed off as a specially trained negotiator was sent in. The man, from Greenock, Scotland, left the building safely at 10.15am yesterday.

He was taken to Blackpool police station, where he will be held before being transferred to Scotland.

Chief Inspector Karen Simister, from Blackpool police, said: “This was a lengthy and protracted incident that reached a safe conclusion following the hard work and patience of specially trained officers.

“I would like to thank people in the area for their co-operation and patience.

“Incidents like this are rare, but when they do happen the public should be reassured that Lancashire Constabulary has highly trained officers that will deal with the situation.”
