VOLUNTEERS at a Wirral lifeboat station are calling on the local community to support a campaign to raise £50,000 for training and new equipment.
The RNLI’s New Brighton lifeboat crew is launching the campaign and inviting local supporters to Wallasey Yacht Club today to meet the crew and to find out more about the work of the charity.
From 2005-2010, New Brighton RNLI rescued 216 people during 287 launches.
Gareth Wilson, RNLI Training Divisional Inspector, North, said those rescues were only possible because RNLI crews receive training to the highest professional standard, ensuring willing volunteers become skilled life savers.
He added: “RNLI training covers essential skills including seamanship, navigation, sea survival and casualty care.
“Our charity provides ongoing training at lifeboat stations and via Mobile Training Units, allowing volunteers to train in the best possible environment – the same seas in which they are called upon to save lives.”
Vital protective kit such as dry suits and lifejackets will also be funded by the New Brighton campaign.
