THE wife of ex-Liverpool striker David Fairclough has died of a brain aneurysm.
Jan Fairclough died on Saturday after collapsing on Wednesday morning, it was announced by the club.
Her daughter, Sophie, who last year won the Grand National Aintree style award, also works for Liverpool FC.
A statement on the club’s website said: “Jan was not only a beautiful woman, she was a great mother and supporter of Liverpool FC and the club's TV channel, LFC TV, where her husband and daughter both work.”
Marina Dalglish also paid tribute to Mrs Fairclough, writing on Twitter: “We are all absolutely devastated at news of Jan’s death. A true friend and we will miss her a lot. Thinking of Tom, Sophie and David.”
Ian Ayre, Liverpool FC managing director, added: "Everyone at the club who knew David and Jan are devastated by this news. David and Jan were inseparable and our thoughts tonight are with David and his children Sophie and Tom and their extended family."
Fans used forums online to send good wishes to the family, with one writing: “I'm sure all of our ex-players know that no matter what sadness or tragedy affects them in their lives, they will never walk alone.”
