A YOUNG cricket hopeful bowled out his hero Andrew Flintoff at the launch of Alder Hey’s new £600,000 physiotherapy unit.
The former England captain officially opened the centre at the children’s hospital, in West Derby, yesterday.
It was funded by the AF Foundation, a charity Flintoff set up with his wife, Rachael.
During the event, 13-year-old Daniel Patten caught his idol, nicknamed “Freddie”, on the back foot.
The youngster, who plays for south Liverpool team Old Xaverians, was involved in a car crash in 2009 which left him with a fractured skull. His leg was also broken in three places.
He has needed treatment at the hospital’s physio unit ever since, and said the new facilities were a huge improvement.
Daniel said: “It is so much better – it makes it all more fun because there is space to play and you can race each other on bikes.
“It was great to meet Freddie – I would love to play for Lancashire like he did one day.
“I am back playing again after my accident now.”
