Campaigner Phil Hammond appears at Hillsborough memorial service

COURAGEOUS Phil Hammond was wheeled into the Hillsborough memorial service after being unable to attend the event for three years.

The 62-year-old, who lost his 14-year-old son Philip in the 1989 disaster, has survived a brain haemorrhage.

He is continuing his recovery after stunning doctors by surviving the setback.

Mr Hammond said: “It is brilliant to be back here and to be able to see people who I have not seen for years.

“It was very hard coming back but I am glad I am here.

Mr Hammond, of Aigburth, added: “I hope we get some justice. I thought Jimmy McGovern was fantastic and he has supported us since the drama documentary.”

Mr Hammond was joined by wife Hilda and their son, Graeme, 32.
