Shotgun used in Liverpool shooting found

A SAWN-OFF shotgun used in a Liverpool shooting was found in the boot of a car.

The weapon was discovered in the back of a black VW Golf that was set alight in Brunswick Street, Garston, 90 minutes after a 22-year-old man was shot in Tewit Hall Close, Speke, on Monday night. The victim was with his girlfriend and a friend at around 10.05pm when he heard footsteps behind him in the street.

When he turned around, he was faced with a gunman who opened fire from no more than six feet away before running off.

The victim was taken to hospital, where he remains today.

A second man, also hit, did not require hospital treatment.

At around 11.40pm, the fire service was called to Brunswick Street to find the burning Golf.

Five minutes later they had a report of a grey BMW 320 diesel well alight in nearby Palmerston Crescent.

Police believe both vehicles were used as getaway cars in the shooting.
