Shipyard workers raise £8,000 for local hospices

TWO Merseyside hospices will receive a share of more than £8,000 raised by workers at Cammell Laird.

In total, the workforce managed to collect £4,230, which was then matched by the shipyard’s management after Cammell Laird chief executive, John Syvret, said that he would match their efforts.

The money will go to Wirral-based Claire House Children’s Hospice and Zoe’s Place in Liverpool, the only baby hospice in the UK, which needs to raise £2.5m a year to continue its work.

Claire House Children’s hospice, based in Bebington, provides specialist and end-of- life care for children and young adults with life-threatening and life-limiting conditions, as well as support for the whole family.

Joanne Bird, of Cammell Laird, said: “This was a terrific effort by a group of shipwrights who first thought of the idea.”
